With over 30 years of professional experience, Rick has honed his skills as technician, educator and mariner. Rick grew up in the Annapolis area and spent his early years on the waters of the Severn River racing and cruising. While studying mechanical engineering, Rick worked as a plumber's apprentice helping him develop hands-on technical skills at an early age. In the late 80’s Rick joined the Living Classrooms Foundation as a shipboard hand and educator aboard the schooner Lady Maryland, thus beginning his career in the professional marine industry. Aboard numerous vessels on the Chesapeake Bay, the waters of the Atlantic from Newfoundland to the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and Great Lakes , Rick refined his skills as a mariner and teacher. Rick earned his 100 ton master mariner’s certificate, serving aboard traditionally rigged vessels such as 121 foot Schooner Pride of Baltimore II. In the early 2000’s Rick began managing the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's educational vessel fleet, taking responsibility for the safety, certification and maintenance of its many inspected and un-inspected vessels ranging in size from 20’ skiffs to a 65’ traditional Chesapeake Bay Skipjack. He was also charged with ongoing professional development of the Foundation’s masters, mates and deckhands. During the decade between 2012-2022, Rick was the General Manager (from startup) of Gibson Island Boat Works, north of Annapolis. His years of leadership and marine experience paid off as the yard proved to develop as a top shelf operation, employing 21 highly-skilled marine professionals where learning and professional development are key elements of the operation.

Jack has been an inquisitive, active learner his entire life. He spent his formative years growing up around the docks at the boatyard and working on boats with his dad. At an early age, Jack developed a penchant for all things mechanical. At age 15, Jack dismantled his self-purchased 1979 F250 fitted with a Cummins diesel with an intent of restoration. 2 years later, the vehicle had new electrical, fuel, drive, and break systems. Additionally, the engine was pulled, front and rear seals replaced and new drive train fabricated (welded) and installed and the chassis was removed and the entire frame prepped and painted.
Jack graduated high school Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 4.2 as a member of the National Honor Society. Jack then graduated at the top of his class from the Landing School in Kennebunk Maine, attending their Marine Systems program. During his time at the Landing School, he acquired additional extracurricular ABYC certifications in Systems , Diesel and Electrical, giving him ABYC Master status. He now spends his time as a critical member of Truett Marine Services team.
